Love Slips Away
by Chamber Of Vestibules
I’ll never be the one
To give up on love
Never be the one
To take the blame
Thirty years gone by, I’m another man
Done alright – I’m on my feet
You’re the story I’m dreaming of
On a night like this when I can’t sleep
No other lover ever felt so good
In my skin or against my arms
No other lover ever came so cheap
Cut so deep or ran so far
I’ll never be the one
To let love slip away
Never be the one
To take the blame
It’s a case of false expectations
That pushed us to the brink
Don’t go complaining ’bout my ice cold heart
You know it’s not half as cool as you might think
I drove down to Davenport
You weren’t at the bar, weren’t on the beach
I miss your bravado and your perky smile
We both know it’s me that’s out of reach
I hear you’re doing well, yes we’re sort of friends
We live in different towns, never chat
Did you ever think that it would feel like this?
Did you ever think it could look like that?
Standing in the surf at the edge of the world
Riptide crossing me with every wave
I got my head in the clouds, feet in the sand
And I’ll never be the one
To let love slip away
